United States company HEXCEL Corporation is a world leader in advanced compound materials: It is the largest producer of carbon fiber in the United States, and the largest producer of intermediate modulus carbon fiber in the world.

50% of its products are made for the aeronautical sector, 27% for the space and defense industries and the remaining 23% for a range of different industries (wind turbines, high-speed trains, cars, etc.).

HEXCEL has two manufacturing plants in Spain: One in Parla (Madrid), operational since 1996, and another inaugurated in May 2008 in Illescas in the Province of Toledo.

The Illescas plant is Hexcel’s first production plant manufacturing carbon fiber in Europe. It has a total surface area of 45,000 square meters. When it reaches full capacity, it will have four production lines, each of which will employ 50 people. The objective is to increase the carbon fiber capacity of the company, as a consequence of the increased use of the material in new aeronautical programs.

The Parla plant has a total surface area of 15,000 square meters and a workforce of 120. Carbon fiber prepregs are manufactured on these premises, especially for Airbus programs.
