The children’s and baby's clothes and accessories chain, Babies'R'Us, part of the group specialized in toys, Toys'R'Us, and until now only present in the United States, is due to open its first European outlet. And it will be opened in Spain, which will become the pilot country for the development of this line of business. The US multinational plans to open between 15 and 20 stores in the Spanish market, the first four in 2007 in the provinces of Madrid, Castellón and Sevilla.
Babies'R'Us has embarked on its European journey in the Madrid suburb of Alcobendas, with an 800 square meters store located next to a Toys'R'Us, in order to take advantage of logistical and transport synergies. After opening in Spain, the company will expand to other European countries, including France (where they have signed an agreement with the Du Pareil Au Même chain) and Germany in 2007.
According to Antonio Urcelay, president of Toys'R'Us in Continental Europe, the Spanish subsidiary of Toys'R'Us forecasts reaching the end of the fiscal year with a turnover of around 290 million euros in net sales, which would mean an increase of 8% in turnover compared to the previous year. The company has more than 40 outlets in the Iberian market (there are eight stores in Portugal) and plans to invest 35 million euros in the next three years to maintain its growth rate.
