Philips’s new Iberian headquarters inaugurated in Madrid |

Esperanza Aguirre (President of the Madrid region) visited the new installations of the French multinational in Madrid on the 20th of May accompanied by her minister for Economy and Consumption, Fernando Merry del Val and leaders of the company in Spain.
Philips employs more than 540 people in the Madrid Region, which is 70% of the total workforce of the company in Spain. The company’s new building in Madrid is an example of innovation and energy efficiency since it is equipped with a new lighting system that reduces working energy consumption and includes presence sensors that prevent unnecessary electricity consumption.
During her presentation Aguirre highlighted the commitment of Philips to innovation. The company is 39th in the ranking of the most innovative companies in the world. Philips currently invests 1,600 million euros annually in R&D and holds around 80,000 patents.
Philips has a turnover of 27,000 million euros worldwide and has a workforce of 128,000. It is the world leader in the lighting sector, number one in patient monitoring and number two in image diagnosis, and is one of the largest three companies in the world in the consumer electronics sector.
Philips is the company responsible for the illumination of large buildings such as the Teatro Real, the Palacio Real or the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Its equipment for monitoring patients and for image diagnosis and for making magnetic resonances, and Computed Tomography and ultrasound scans is also worthy of special mention.
