Schott Solar opens first solar tube factory in Spain

German multinational 'Schott Solar' officially opened a manufacturing plant for solar receptor tubes on the 27th of May, located in the Environmental Activities Park of Andalusia (PAMA) in Seville. This is the first business park in Andalusia devoted to the environment and renewable energy sectors. The new factory required an investment of 40 million euros.

According to the company, the new factory is “the most technologically advanced in the world because it uses the latest component and production process technology to manufacture high-performance receptor tubes".

The optical precision of the mirrors is combined with vacuum tight receptor tubes in glass casings that play a crucial role in the efficiency of parabolic mirror thermal solar electrical power stations, which follow the trajectory of the sun and concentrate its radiation to convert solar energy into heat for the generation of electrical energy.

'Schott Solar' produces components for photovoltaic applications and thermal solar electrical power stations. It is one of very few totally integrated manufacturers of crystalline silicon wafers, cells and modules.

'Schott Solar' has installations in Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States and Spain. The Schott consortium generated sales of 2,100 million euros worldwide in 2006-2007 and has 16,700 collaborators.
