Spain to open Europe’s first hydrogen energy storage plant |
||||
The installation is to be integrated into a pioneering project developed by Gas Natural, the Galicia regional government and the Galicia Sotavento Foundation. Its objective is to study the suitability of hydrogen as a means of storing energy employing the excess energy from Sotavento’s Wind Park.
Energy is thereby stored for later use in the production of electrical energy when there is a lack of wind or a peak in demand.
The Sotavento Wind Park is the ideal location for the installation since one of its goals is to undertake R&D activities and to be a research, training and dissemination center for renewable energy. | ||||
